Skin disorders: No. 1 reason for medical visits
A large US study has found skin disorders are the most common reasons for seeing a doctor.
The study, which reviewed the medical records of more than 142,000 people over a five year period, found skin disorders including acne, cysts and dermatitis were the most common conditions.
Skin problems comprised 43 per cent of visits, with joint problems (34 per cent) and back pain (24 per cent) also high on the list of reasons for doctor visits.
Upper respiratory tract infections such as colds and ‘flu’ were lower on the list, representing just 22 per cent of visits.
The study was published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
